I’ve said it before, and I’ll no doubt say it again:

Your bowl of stew and hot black bread are payment enough. Whether you eat it or not is your business, but their presence on the table is mine.

There is no need for coins.

No need for sticks, paper, jewels, shells, I.O.U.s, soda caps, teeth, or ears.

Yes. Ears.

Despite this standing rule being mentioned more often than the specials, I still find my larder groaning beneath the weight of assorted “offerings.” I have three chests filled to the brim with clinking oddities and whispering miscellanea, and not a one of them has paid for a single candle’s wax.

So, please. Sit. Eat. Let the stew do the talking. The bread will handle the paperwork.

And if you absolutely must leave something behind…

Make it a story.
